Our Beginning
Essential oils and massages have been used for thousands of years to promote well-being and relax the mind. But in the modern day, many people’s experience with natural wellness is limited to occasional spa visits. MYLO was founded on a simple belief: that the restorative feeling of a world-class spa should not be reserved for rare occasions. It should be woven into everyday life through thoughtful, sensorial rituals.
For Carol, the idea did not arrive as a sudden epiphany. It emerged gradually, shaped by decades of study, practice, and lived experience.
Born in Taiwan, a place of lush mountains, humid forests, and botanical abundance, Carol developed an early sensitivity to nature’s complexity. She entered the field of aromatherapy and soon earned a reputation for her refined instinct for sourcing exceptional botanicals and blending them with scientific precision.
Throughout her career, essential oils have been an integral part of her life. She often shares the wonders of essential oils by making massage oils, skincare products, ointments, and scents for her family and friends using essential oils sourced from all over the world. Her exceptional understanding of the complex chemistry behind essential oils allowed her to create blends that were not only beautiful in scent but also carefully composed to support moments of calm, restoration, and daily care. Soon, word of her products spread, and many people began asking for them. Carol created MYLO with the goal of giving more people the opportunity to experience the wonders of essential oils every single day and from the comfort of their home.
Our Principles
MYLO is a brand that has been decades in the making. The principles we carry with us are derived from lessons Carol learned throughout her life as a chemist and aromatherapist. We hold these lessons close to our hearts, and they guide us in our decision-making every single day.
1) Natural
Carol began her career at a pharmaceutical R&D lab after graduating from university. She learned two crucial lessons from this experience that would stay with her.
The first is that we should approach synthetic chemicals with care. Synthetic chemicals interact with the body in complex ways that are often unpredictable. This is why the long-term bodily impact of many drugs remains unknown. This lesson led to Carol’s love of aromatherapy and natural products in the first place and inspired our commitment to imposing stringent purity requirements on all our raw ingredients. We also eliminate synthetic ingredients whenever possible.
The second lesson is that a significant portion of modern medicines is derived from botanical ingredients. This means nature contains a great repertoire of ingredients with health benefits. When developing our products, we respect the complexity of botanicals and select each ingredient with purpose.
2) Beyond the superficial
We believe essential oils are more than fragrance, and skincare is more than appearance. We study the character, composition, and purpose of each ingredient so that every formula offers more than surface-level functions. We do so because we believe the most beautiful skin is the healthiest, and the best blend of essential oils is the one that interacts best with the body.
This is also why we would not add ingredients that carry potential long-term health risks, even if they may make our oils smell stronger or make the skin look slightly better.
3) Uncompromising Excellence
We consider ourselves to be artisans of essential oils. We obsess over the details most people never see, because we believe our attention to the tiniest of details adds up to create products that are truly exceptional. MYLO began this way, with our team spending hours fine-tuning the formula for our very first product. That devotion to craft remains at the heart of everything we make.
