Our Commitment To Quality

At MYLO, we take quality seriously. Good quality for us implies two things: 1) mixing the essential oils in the most suitable way by taking into account their complex chemistry, and 2) sourcing the highest-quality essential oils from around the world.

1. MIXING OILS:

Essential oils don’t just smell nice. They contain chemical components that have been proven to influence bodily functions. Many are known to have antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. When mixing the essential oils ingredients for each of our products, the chemists and aromatherapists on our team take into account the chemical properties of each ingredient and combine them in complementary ways to achieve specific objectives. For example, when developing essential oils to be diffused in school environments, we select essential oils with chemical components that are known to promote cognitive function. A significant portion of our staff are trained chemists, and many have received accreditation from international aromatherapy associations like NAHA and IFRA.

2. SOURCING OILS:

In addition to mixing the oils, a significant portion of our effort is dedicated to sourcing the highest-quality essential oils from around the world. We rigorously assess all the oils we source for purity and potency. Purity refers to whether the oils are natural and without adulteration. We work closely with suppliers and utilize various chemical analysis tools to ensure the purity of our oils. Potency is a more nuanced concept that can be characterized along several criteria:

2.a) Botanical Species

The colloquial names of plants often refer to multiple species. For example, Frankincense Essential Oils can refer to oils from Boswellia Sacra, Boswellia Serrata, or any other Frankincense species. Although these oils are related and may smell similar, they have different chemical properties. We select essential oils carefully from the best plant species based on the compatibility of the chemical composition and the specific use case. We would not substitute oils from one species for another for convenience.

2.b) Plant Part

Sometimes, multiple parts of the same plant can be distilled to create essential oils. For example, Clove essential oil can be obtained from both the bud and the leaf. Oils produced by distilling different parts of the same plant have different chemical profiles and should therefore be used for different purposes. We similarly apply high standards in selecting the most suitable parts of plants for distillation.

2.c) Geography

Various factors affect the growth of aromatic plants, such as humidity, altitude, mineral composition in soils, and rainfall. Therefore, plants of the same species grown in different geographic regions can exhibit very different chemical and aromatic properties. Even minor geographic variations can have a huge impact on the chemistry of the plants. For example, Chinese Mugwort (Artemisia Argyi) from adjacent provinces in China, like Hubei, Guizhou, and Henan, produces essential oils with very different chemical profiles. Our team selects the best geographic region to source the essential oils through chemical analysis and studies of the region's historical uses of the plants.

2.d) Distillation Method

Essential oils are produced by distilling plants. There are multiple distillation methods; the most popular are steam distillation and hydrodistillation. Different distillation methods are suitable for different plant species. Some plants, like Jasmine (Jasminum Grandiflorum), require customized distillation methods due to their more delicate nature. We make decisions about the distillation method based on prior research and in-house tests.

2.e) Chemical Compositions

The goal of all the above considerations is to lead to essential oils with chemical constituents that are best for the health of the end user. We analyze lab reports on all our raw ingredients to ensure that the chemical constituents of our oils match our ideal chemical and safety profile.
